Timer

The timer in action

Your job is to time all the speeches, both table topics and prepared, and the evaluations. You will use a stop watch and indicate to the speaker by way of green, amber and red lights how long they have left. You also make a note of exactly how long each person speaks for. This is for two main reasons:

1.One of the most important attributes of a good speaker is that they stick to the amount of time that has been allocated to them. Clear and accurate timing means we all learn at Chiltern Speakers to plan our speeches and stick to our time limits.

2.It is very important that the meeting finishes on time.

You may find this Timing sheet useful, but if it looks too complicated you are welcome to use any method that works for you. The general evaluator or the toastmaster for the evening will be able to tell you who is speaking and how long their speeches are.
